I feel like we as a group didn’t really talk about these as they were overshadowed by the Bronco proper. TBH, this seems like a great vehicle and something I’m really considering.

Family car, decent looking, might actually have some offroad chops. Getting strong Xterra vibes from it. Steel wheels, cloth interior.

The design of the Sport is much more complete, like they actually finished designing it.

I was going to do a “hammerhead says” on one of these...and forgot I guess.

I think they are great.  Obviously they are limited in their role but they seem to be ideal for that buyer that wants trailhead access and some limited exploring capability but isn’t willing to give up civility and mileage in their daily driver to do it.

I see a Renegade done right. Very first gen Xterra esque as you said. I like it. Reminds me of the first and second gen CRV too. It’s a fun off road utility vehicle that is useful as an urban runabout. Eventually they will depreciate enough to use as a fun offroad utility vehicle.

They’re a bit more capable than a Forester or Crostrek but without all the “Subaru” baggage that a lot of people don’t like.

Xterra was on a truck frame and had some serious off-roading chops.

Better comparison to Freelander/others?

Hopefully it’s a good vehicle and a nice option for many.

I mentioned it once or twice. But I’m in agreement with you. This one catches my eye in a more practical stand than the bigger Bronco line. The “steelies” are actually aluminum, but they look great in the Badlands trim. That power plant is nothing to turn your nose up at either: 250HP. It’s perfect for the missus, although she is currently driving one of the last great sedans America built: the Chrysler 200.

All the Bronco most people need, but I think it looks like a shoe. Why is its poor nose so long?

Anyway, I feel like I’m going to start seeing these next to Crosstreks at Whole Foods

I like what I see so far.  It would be my preference over most of the competitors in the segment.

That baggage including a transmission that explodes if you off-road it.

If you want the 2.o ecoboost, you gotta pony up $33K at least

Kinja'd!!!

I am doubtful how many will use even half its offroad/AWD potential. Nothing that the a Ford Escape cannot do, guess it comes down to personal prefernce for rugged looks inside and out vs something that looks like a lifted focus. It’s not like the escape is cheaper either with the 2.0 ecoboost. Option it in and you’re looking at $34K on the SEL $37K on Titanium

Yikes.

They’ll both be fine for the “offroading” most people think is wheeling.

I think its a good entry in a segment of posers. It’ll actually have some chops. I would have to drive it before I considered it though. Honestly I feel like its going to be a letdown onroad which shouldn’t be surprising. But a let down in the sense that its going to be just another crossover.

I think it was a very good call on Ford’s end. It works for us at Jeep. People want the Wrangler but settle for a Renegade or one of the other small Trailhawk vehicles. Use that brand equity baby!

yeah. For better or for worse people have come to associate Subaru’s with an off-road brand , despite the fact that the engineering underlying their vehicles gets less off-road capable all the time. The CVT’s that off-road die prematurely and their AWD systems aren’t nearly the differentiator they used to be.

So many lifted crosstreks here.

Yeaup. All the electro-hydraulic X-AWD+4xCrawl mOdE stuff on the new crossovers is really impressive... for a few minutes until everything overheats and either kills throttle, stops working completely, or both. Then you stuck good.

These wheels are not steel, they are listed as “ 17" Carbonized Grey-Painted Low Gloss Aluminum Wheels”. Optional only on the Badlands package.

I think these are going to sell like hotcakes and good on ford.

They’re going after Jeep with the new Broncos, the regular one is targeting the Wrangler customer and the Sport is targeting the Cherokee customer.

Looking at it for what it is, much like the Cherokee, it will probably be a much better fit for 90+ % of people that buy a Wrangler or a regular Bronco. No comparison for actual offroading, or if you actually take the doors and roof off on a regular basis , or if you want to double the MSRP with lift kits and tires and ANGERY grilles.

For a regular jagoff that wants to feel “adventure-y” on their boring commute, and occasionally needs to drive on a dirt road, it will be great.

I like it a lot. I’m not totally sold on the front end which is a bit too blocky , but overall it gives me a Land Rover Freelander vibe. Since it’s based on the Escape it should be much nicer to drive on the road than the big Bronco , and it has a more interesting interior than the Escape with those (body-color?) trim inserts.

Kinja'd!!!

Plus it will come as a hybrid which should be neat.

Isn’t it just a Cherokee Trailhawk competitor? I can see how it may do a lot better, but I don’t think any new product niche is being carved here.

Isn’t the new Maverick going to be based on the same platform. I'm interested in checking one of those out. But that could go south quick depending on how they look. The Ranger was the same for me. I had a Ranger and was excited they were back, then I saw them and realized I'd rather have a Tacoma or Frontier.

I like this one more than the other two in terms of styling, the dimensions just seem right whereas the others look a bit too tall . Although , that photograph makes the front of the Sport look E X T R A L O N G in comparison to the rest of the car, but it could certainly be worse.

Also is loaded with more offroad tech than I’ll ever need in my entire life, so that’s good too.
